Here are the changes the main banks have made to retail interest rates on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, so far.
For home loans:
Commbank has released a -10 bps discount for variable home loans taken out online. The discount from their standard rates applies to all LVR levels, owner-occupied or investor, P&I or interest-only. This means for an owner-occipier on a &I loan with an LVR under 60%, the variable rate rate will be 6.24%. These loans must be $150,000 or larger. Interestingly, CBA still has its Digi Home Loan offer which is even cheaper at 6.09% for <60% LVR. The discount does not apply to Digi Home Loans, only their Simple or Standard versions.
For savings accounts:
No changes to report here.
For term deposits:
Please note that Commbank's current 5.25% one year 'special offer' ends today. If the past is any guide, they will have another 'special offer' released tomorrow, but that is only a guess on our part.
Macquarie has raised its over $1 mln one year rate by +5 bps to 5.05% from today. Other rates are unchanged.
