Today's changes to interest rates

Here are the changes the main banks have made to retail interest rates on Friday, August 21, 2026, so far.

For home loans:

Like yesterday, there are no changes to report today.

For savings accounts:

AMP Bank's Go Save have had their tier levels rejigged. Previously they had one tier $1 to $500, the next tier $500 to $5 mln, and then rates for over $5 mln (at 0%). Now they have four tiers: $1 to $50,000 and the rate has risen +15 bps to 5.25%; $50,000 to $250,000 and this now has a 4.75% rate in this band, $250,000 to $5 mln with a rate of 4.25%. Over $5 mln is still 0%.

For term deposits:

NAB has joined the trend of recently easing TD rates. Their nine month and 1 year TD rates are down by -10 bps to 5.00% and 5.15% respectively. Their 18 month TD rate is down -20 bps to 5.00%.

Westpac has two 'special offers'. They haven't changed their 8 month one. But they have trimmed -5 bps off their one year 'special' to 5.20%. All Westpac's standard rates remain unchanged.

This now means among the big five banks, for a one year TD the best rates available are:

ANZ = 5.25%
Commbank = 5.15%
Macbank = 5.15%
NAB = 5.00%
Westpac = 5.20%
