Today's changes to interest rates

Here are the changes the main banks have made to retail interest rates on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, so far.

For home loans:

No changes to report today.

For savings accounts:

Commbank has tweaked its Goal Saver components to benefit itself rather than their customers. It chopped its base rate by -25 bps to just 0.10% and added +25 bps to its bonus rate to 4.90%. That means the potential 5.00% rate remains unchanged.

Meanwhile, Maquarie has advised that its attractive Welcome rates will be withdrawn on September 14. It also said they are going to expand their savings tiers from the current three to six. But that change isn't effective until November 1, so they have given eight weeks notice.

For home loans:

No changes to report today.:

Bank Australia and cousin Qudos Bank have both raised their six month term deposit rates by +10 bps taking the new offer to 5.30%. They also raised their one year TD rate by +10 bps to 5.35%. These are now both market leading rate levels.
